Yoga Kym

cropped-beach_star.jpgI was a competitive swimmer for 20 years. But all of that ended when I graduated from college. After college I took a job working from home and over the next few years, settled into a sedentary lifestyle. I eventually moved on to working in an office, in a fast-paced, relatively stressful job at a magazine. I was living my dream, but I was not healthy. I was high strung, in pain, isolated and unhappy.

At the beginning of 2010, a yoga studio near my job offered a 60 day unlimited yoga pass that became my gateway to a regular yoga practice. Me and some of my coworkers took classes together almost every day during lunch until our passes expired. Yoga was hard and while I had some experience with it from many years previous, taking studio classes was a new and welcome challenge.

It didn’t take long before I started to feel stronger and even more balanced. When my pass expired at the studio near my job, I found another one closer to my house and started going two or three times a week. I started to lose weight, my blood pressure returned to normal levels, and I found myself using the tools I had learned on my mat to manage the stress in my life.

I considered the possibility of becoming a yoga teacher in 2011, but it wasn’t until three years later that I entered the Yoga Teacher Training at the Southwest Institute of Healing Arts in Tempe, AZ. I am now a 500-hour certified yoga teacher trained in Hatha Unity Yoga and Core Strength Vinyasa principles.

My mission is to make yoga accessible for all levels, by dispelling the myth that yoga is for the already flexible and strong. My classes offer lots of options and modifications that empower you to make sustainable progress, and connect to your own inner and outer strength.

warriorI teach several regular classes a week in a variety of styles including Power Vinyasa, Hot Power Fusion, Yin, and Core Strength Vinyasa. Visit my yoga website for irregular updates and insights from my yoga practice. My schedule is also available (and updated regularly) online if you’re interested in practicing with me.

Hope to see you on the mat!
